Islands in the Net | Padimai Art & Tech Studio

27 Aug 2026

Islands in the Net is a temporary meeting space for Southeast Asian futures, bringing together contemporary art, digital culture, archives, screenings, performances, research, and public conversations. Presented at Padimai Art & Tech Studio, the exhibition considers how AI, data, networks, and emerging technologies are shaping everyday life across Southeast Asia, and asks how we might actively shape these technologies in return. Bringing together diverse artistic practices and perspectives, the exhibition moves between the personal and the infrastructural, the physical and the digital, creating a space to reflect on the systems that increasingly organise how we live, communicate, work, and imagine the future. Curated by Kathleen Ditzig, Ryan Ho, and Joshua Comaroff, Islands in the Net features works and projects by Heman Chong, Fyerool Darma, Ho Rui An, Wei Wei Hsu, Cyborg Psychology Research Group at the MIT Media Lab, Grace Quek, Bussy Temple, and Ryan Ho with Emotional Technologies Lab. Rather than presenting technology as a fixed or neutral force, the exhibition brings together artists, researchers, designers, and communities to consider its cultural, political, social, and everyday implications. Islands in the Net becomes a space for encountering different ways of thinking about digital life, and for imagining alternative futures from within the region.
